Today’s Scrip-Bit 23 February 2011 2 Chronicles 20:20‏

2 Chronicles 20:20.    And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Oh Friends, here’s an idea guaranteed to get our motors running this Wednesday morning and get us out on the highway of life looking for adventure in the Lord’s name. (smile) Those sentiments come from a song whose title I don’t remember, but it was done by great Canadian band, The Guess Who. And the idea that’s guaranteed to get us moving is: ‘To get more out of life, give more of yourself.’ And that’s an undeniable fact my brethren! It’s taken from my cardboard poster titled, ‘P.S. I LOVE YOU.’ It’s like Sister Joyce (Joyce Meyer) is wont to say; you can’t expect changes in your life, if you keep doing the same thing every day. Change can only come when the initial movement is different. Unfortunately though, the hardest thing for humans to do is change. That’s due to many reasons, but the biggest is fear, fear of the unknown, of what will happen when we change. However Friends, as believers in the One True God Jehovah, we should not be afraid of change, because we are solidly grounded and rooted in trust and faith in Him. We might not like the unknown, but we shouldn’t fear it. And the easiest way to get rid of that fear is to immerse ourselves in His Word. Oh my people, there’s nothing like God’s Holy Word to strengthen, brighten and excite a human spirit. And our Bit is a perfect example of the Word and our God to quell fear. ‘And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.’ Now that’s the difficult part in handling the word; belief. But like most things in life, we have to practice it, before we can master it. And our story continues from yesterday, where several nations joined forces to invade Judah, but king Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah did the right thing; prayed to God, acknowledged His superiority and their weakness, and pleaded for help. Now this is where faith, belief, and trust in the Almighty picks up and begins to work. While they are all standing in the temple yard, the spirit of the Lord comes upon Jahaziel, a Levite: ‘And he said, Hearken ye all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid or dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff (ascent) of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook (wadi or stream-bed), before the wilderness of Jeruel. Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set (position) yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah, and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord. And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.’ (2 Chron.20:15-19) Oh Friends, paraphrasing that piece of scripture would have denied our God His much deserved praise and also denied us its full and true meaning. By the way, the Spirit agreed with me on that point. (smile) Now that’s the second part of our story, of the equation, if you like. Yesterday we saw Judah praying and appealing for God’s help. Today we’ve seen God’s answer and His directions for their conduct in the matter. Ah mih people, I can’t help but be amazed by the many parts and aspects to our God: a powerful warrior King who fights our battles for us, but also a unique Deity whose basic state is one of unconditional LOVE, encompassed by grace, mercy, forgiveness and kindness, with a faithful promise of salvation and eternal life. Wow! It sounds too good to be true! However Friends, this is possibly the only thing in the universe that doesn’t adhere to the cliché: ‘if it sounds too good to be true, then it is.’ Oh my people, the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is for real! His Word proves it, and if you’d only sincerely surrender your life to Him, He will prove it to you personally, like He’s already done to millions. But that’s enough Holy food for us to digest today though Friends. Tomorrow, our God in favour, more of His glorious Word and deeds. Till then, please surrender your soul, put your whole trust, faith and belief in Him. It’s the wisest decision you’ll ever make on this earthly journey. And in return, He’ll surely get your motor running, and take you on the road to adventures you’ve never even dreamed possible. Such is the power and magnanimity of our God! Much LOVE!…it’s all a matter of faith and trust…sincere surrender and belief…for the battle is the Lord’s…
